,On the 17th of August, we competed in a match against our partners. We thought this would be a nice way to celebrate the end for 2 of our players who are leaving us. Once we explained and demonstrated all of the rules to the men, they really got into the game and thought they could beat us! They had never played netball, or played together before, so bearing this in mind, they did really well! Unfortunately, most of our partners were a lot taller than us, so they could easily intercept passes. Luckily, we all had so much fun doing so and we were able to get to know each other and their partners further. Thankfully, us ladies beat the partners 30-13! We are looking forward to our next match...
On the 1st of August, we had a friendly netball match against Mill Green cricket club. We have done this in the past, but as one of the cricketers was leaving and one of our own players was leaving too, they wanted to play again before they both left. It was such a laugh! The men always try so hard, especially as they think they are going to beat us...but that hasn't happened yet! It is very interesting to observe the different ways the men play, compared to our ladies. The men jump much higher than us, so intercept a lot of passes! We are so lucky to have a club, where players are happy to watch, to play or to officiate, just to be involved one way or another. Until next time Mill Green!
We were lucky enough to be coached by Ashley Neal, one of the Mavericks professional super league players! We were so excited, and she certainly pulled the training session off! Because a lot of our club members are short, we asked her to do a session on defending. We wanted to know how we could successfully defend and make more of an impact in games, so Ashley lead some drills that were really helpful in achieving this. For example, she taught us how to dictate and improve our defence stances. We all really enjoyed the session and wish that we can repeat this experience in the future.
Christmas 2016:Every year for the past few years, we have eaten at the Dog and Duck pub in our local village for our netball Christmas meal. They always cook us delicious, nutritious food and have great hospitality. We always complete a fun quiz, that has been organised and created by one of the players and finish the night toasting to everyone in the club! We thank the Dog and Duck for having us. Watching international netball matches:Many of us get together and watch England Netball matches at the Copper Box Arena. Additionally, we watch local super league teams compete against each other.
During one of the England Netball matches, one of our juniors had the amazing opportunity of being a ball girl, which also involved her holding the England flag at the start of the match. What a moment for our junior to experience and what a historic moment for our club! |
